𝐈NTERNATIONAL 𝐃AY FOR THE ELIMINATION OF RACIAL DISCRIMINATION

In celebration of the 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐒𝐨𝐧𝐚π₯ πƒπšπ² 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐑𝐞 𝐄π₯𝐒𝐦𝐒𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐒𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 π‘πšπœπ’πšπ₯ πƒπ’π¬πœπ«π’π¦π’π§πšπ­π’π¨π§ future SARI Young Leaders from the Diverse City and Soccernites Under-18s gathered to raise awareness and gain support for action on racism and all forms of discrimination.

𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐒𝐨𝐧𝐚π₯ πƒπšπ² 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐑𝐞 𝐄π₯𝐒𝐦𝐒𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐒𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 π‘πšπœπ’πšπ₯ πƒπ’π¬πœπ«π’π¦π’π§πšπ­π’π¨π§ is observed annually on the 21st March, the day in 1960 that police in Sharpeville, South Africa shot dead 69 people at a peaceful demonstration against the Apartheid β€˜Pass Laws’ - an internal passport system designed to racially segregate the population, restrict movement of individuals and allocate low-wage migrant labour. Proclaiming the day in 1966 the UN General Assembly called on the international community to redouble its efforts to eliminate all forms of racial discrimination.

It is a day for us to consider the continuing curse of racism and what we can do about it. The future is in our hands.
