TANAISTE EAMON GILMORE AND BRIAN KERR ANNOUNCE EUROPEAN STREETFOOTBALL FESTIVAL 2015

Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore today announced that Ireland has been chosen to host the European Street Football Festival 2015. The cross - border soccer tournament is organised by Sport Against Racism Ireland (SARI) and streetfootballworld and will take place across Dublin, Dundalk, Belfast, Newry and Warrenpoint in August 2015.

Since 2008 the European Street Football Festival has taken place in post-conflict zones with participants drawn  from across Europe, Israel & Palestine and the Balkan states. The aim of the tournament is to unite young people through the game of football while promoting intercultural understanding, respect and build capacity and self-confidence of youth to become change-makers in their communities. In August 2015 a total of 24 delegations of young people aged between 14 -17  will participate in the festival.

The Tanaiste said “Sport can be an important means of communicating the messages of inclusion and integration. The 2015 European Street Football Festival is a major opportunity to showcase the efforts that are being made by young people across the island of Ireland to develop real and meaningful community relations and I look forward to welcoming the delegations to Ireland in August 2015”
